Wildlife Integration Network
There are a variety of animals that reside in both the Ecological Preserve and the San Joaquin Marsh, including:
bobcats, coyotes, cactus wren, and raccoons. Our built environment fragments many of these habitats, however, and limits their mobility. With this project, we would like to better understand how wildlife is able to move amongst these open spaces. Do they use the UCI campus, culverts, or streets? We hope our results will inform management decisions that can help to improve mobility for these animals.Cameras will be placed in animal hotspots throughout the Ecological Preserve, San Joaquin Marsh, and Aldrich Park to identify how the animal populations navigate the built and natural environments.
